It’s very late; I think I am jet lagged ….
(This is my second visit to Tokyo, having been last year I was a little more mentally prepared for the culture shock!!!!
Today has been a funny old day , spent last night doing the various bars etc in the Roppongi district of Tokyo, on our drunken route John and I found this really cool Mexican restaurant where they have a computer controlled dart game. Now before you go all glazed eyes on me, this is not a computer game, but a real dart board and a computer detects where you have hit and keeps scores etc. Pretty fantastic I say, for the record I lost 3-1, the one win being on a technicality …. I never was much of a darts player. The beer probably didn’t help much either.
After dragging myself out of bed this morning, we visited the Akihabara district (again in Tokyo), this is the electronics area, where all the gadgets are sold … Good but pricy, I picked up a 512MB memory stick for my Camera, and drooled a heck of a lot at the new kit … one item which really caught my eye was the Sony LIBRIé e-book reader, review here http://www.eink.com/news/releases/pr70.html. If had not been for the fact it has a crazy DRM (Digital Rights Management) system I would have bought one.
In the afternoon we made our way down to the Ginza district which is the posh, glitzy side of Tokyo, very expensive. Found a fantastic electronics store (actually lots of them), so there was really no point in going to Akihabara, an external tiny 80 GB drive was promptly purchased plus some other assorted stuff.
My son is now the proud owner of various transforming robots and digimon stuff.
We decided to eat local , and found a restaurant which looked okay , there was a no English menu , feeling brave (despite John saying it was a bad idea), we decided to order something without being able to read what it was. WHAT A BAD IDEA. I am saying no more, but John likened it to eating cold worms (How does he know what they taste like?).
We gave up on the local option, and I ordered a beef curry from room service when we got back to the hotel, we will try again tomorrow.
Speaking of tomorrow, in the evening we are going out with some of the people from the Tokyo office, I heard something about a karaoke bar ….. Now I am getting really worried.
If you want to read more about Tokyo, this is a fine link.
